April 2022 - Joomla 4 & GSOC 2022 Projects

Joomla's GSoC 2022 Project Features

Topic Overview:

GSoC Contributor Applications for the 2022 round close 10 hours after our presentation tonight, and with over 300 students expressing interest in this year's program with Joomla, the application review phase is looking to be challenging for mentors in coming weeks.

At this month's Joomla Australia session, we'll be walking through what the 5 projects for this year's GSoC are looking to bring to the next major version update for Joomla 4.

  • Workflow / Scheduled interface - Joins two features of Joomla 4 together with the ability to schedule automated workflow progressions and content publishing transitions
  • Guided Tour - implements the Shepherd Javascript library in a Joomla component to create a core tour, a framework for third party extension developers to create tours, and eventually site administrators to create their own tours in Joomla.
  • SEO - review Joomla's existing SEO capabilities and add some core features in that will assist with implementing additional SEO functionality.
  • Accessibility Plugin - Reworking the current Joomla accessibility plugin to provide a better UX and technical experience.
  • Schema.org - Implement a JSON+LD library for Joomla that improves Jooml'a use of inline microdata.
